What’s the difference between mentoring and coaching?

Coaching, by definition, is about one-on-one instruction. In practice, coaching is a means of providing feedback to sustain and improve performance. It is a critical part of mentoring. Mentoring, however, is a process by which a wise and helpful guide or advisor uses experience to show a person how to avoid mistakes he or she made earlier in his career or otherwise helps his or her advance the individual in her career.
